My son will be going out to Vegas with my wife and I. He works for an airline and will be going standby and staying for maybe 6-8 hours before he heads home. Assuming there are seats for him and he makes it there, what are the rules for underage(he is 20) people in casinos. We are staying at the Barbary Coast. We have no intension of playing while he is there. He can walk through the casino but not stand there? And is it the same in all casinos. Just trying to avoid any problems before there is one. Is there a website I can go to?

under 21 can not "be" in the casino areas. Walking through to get to hotel or pool etc is fine but underage may not stop and hang in the casino part

Its true that underage people are not to be in the casino area but unfortuantely it is not enforced enough from what I see.
I live in Vegas and go the local casinos very often and putting up with children in the gambling areas is horrible. How strict it is on the Strip I'm not certain but in the local casinos it is not enforced enough. With most local casinos having Arcades for the kids means they run thorugh the casinos constantly. I remember the old days when minors were not even allowed on the casino floors but Las Vegas wants the family to come so they making sure they have things for the kids to do while the parents gamble. Actually have dealt with this alot lately...and my 20 year old has been allowed to walk thru, almost always asked to move on even if she just stops to look at someone winning big on a slot.
Barbarry Coast again was no problem walking thru and hanging out waiting for a restaurant table, she was allowed to watch Fat Elvis from a table in the lounge area. She has no interest in playing, afraid she might win something she could not collect  You should be fine just walking around and seeing all of the sights, even if they are inside the casinos |

I would encourage you to tell your son to walk around all he wants and even gamble if he wishes - its unlikely anything will be said to him but if he is asked to show ID just leave the area. He's 20 years old, he's a man. Its kind of sad that his mother is even asking such questions.

IMHO it is sad that someone encourages someone to break the law.
 While you might not agree with it or think it is right it is still the law in the casinos. If you don't want to abide by a places rules and regulations then keep your ass out!20=man?!  Keep up the good work MOM!! |

Not that I condone breaking the law, but what on earth is the age limit 21 for anyway. This has always puzzled me when in the US. I live in the UK, and we can smoke at 16, drink at 18 (but likely to be able to drink before due to slacker rules).
Also in Europe 16 year olds can walk into bars and buy drinks in some countries. I think 16 may be a touch too you (although I did it myself when in Spain years ago, and came to no harm), but I think 18 is much more reasonable. You're an adult at 18, can get married at 18, why not have a glass of wine or a beer!???? |

***************** sorry to disagree but MOST 18 year olds I have ever seen I would NOT consider to be an adult. Some are more mature than others of course. The "legal" age can be whatever some claim it to be in some places for whatever reason, but just because you are of "legal age" does not mean that you are an adult. MOST people on this board are of an "adult age" but have you seen the way some of them act?! By years they might be an adult but many act like little kids! |

Regardless of what mikemer thinks he knows, your son -- as you as aware- cannot legally gamble in LV. So if you follow Mike's ridiculous advice, make sure your son leaves no credits in the machine or money in the hopper at any point since he will not be allowed to clean out the machine when he refuses to give his ID . So the lame advice of just getting up and leaving means without his money.
